Draganflyer X8 Features

Safety Features

Engineered for Safety

Safety is a key factor in any form of aviation including UAVs. The Draganflyer X8 has been designed with this in mind. With features such as small size, quad rotor layout, data link, flight recorder, software configurations, navigation lights, and real time telemetry you can feel confident that the Draganflyer X8 is safe to operate. Fly in confidence knowing that you are in full control of a stable aircraft that will provide you with great video and photographs.

Small Size & Low Weight

Small Size & Low Weight

Although the Draganflyer X8 is the largest of the Draganflyer fleet of helicopters it is still relatively small in stature compared to rc helicopters that can deliver the same performance. The Draganflyer X8 is only slightly larger than the Draganflyer X6 while at the same time having over double the payload capacity.

On-Board Stabilization Software

Integrated into the Draganflyer X8 is an onboard computer that continuously monitors 11 sensors to stabilize flight. The stabilization software makes the helicopter easy to fly which allows you to concentrate on taking photos and videos rather than flying the helicopter.

Easy to See Navigation Lights

High Brightness Navigation Lights

In order to help the pilot know what orientation the helicopter is in it has been equipped with four extremely bright high powered LED navigation lights. The brightness of the navigation lights can be adjusted to best suit the conditions you are flying in.

Data Logging Software

The Draganflyer X8s internal software has been designed to log details of every flight and this information is transmitted back to the hand held controller where it is recorded on a Micro-SD card. Draganview software can read this log file as can most spreadsheet applications. The data log includes information from each of the eleven onboard sensors. This log file is much like what is recorded in a full size aircrafts black box and is very useful for debugging flight problems.

Low Battery Indicator

Low Battery Indicator

Feel confident that the Draganflyer X8 will not run out of power from the battery with out warning you. The on board battery voltage is monitored and transmitted in real time to the hand held controller. When a low battery voltage is detected the hand held controller alerts you with both an audible and visual warning. This gives the pilot ample warning to safely land the Draganflyer X8.

Auto-Descent Failsafe

When the radio link between the helicopter and the hand held controller is lost the Draganflyer X8 will automatically begin its auto-descent routine. The auto descent routine governs how fast the helicopter descends to help minimize possibilities of damage during an uncontrolled landing. Auto-Descent Failsafe

Maximum Operating Ceiling

A maximum altitude can be set so that the Draganflyer X8 will be restricted from flying above the preset altitude. If you are restricted to a maximum operating altitude rest assured that you will not violate this restriction.

Transmission Frequencies

The transmission frequencies for video are different than those for the data and control signals. This prevents interference between the two. Data and control signals are broadcast at 2.4GHz and the video signal is transmitted at 5.8GHz. By using these two different frequencies the helicopter can maintain a secure and reliable connection to the hand held controller.

8 Rotor Redundancy

In the unlikely event that one of the brushless motors fails, the helicopter will still be able to fly and land safely. This redundancy is a unique feature that cannot be accomplished using fewer independently driven rotors.
