Simple to Use
Just because an unmanned aerial vehicle is a complicated sophisticated piece of equipment does not mean it needs to be complicated to use. With that idea in mind Draganfly Innovations has made our hand held controller simple to use. The ergonomically designed controller allows you to control the Draganflyer X8 flight by using two main gimbals. The handheld controller also gives you easy control over GPS hold, and ascent/descent with easy to use Spring Centered Throttle (SCT) control. The controller also gives you control over the camera shutter, tilt ad zoom controls.
Continuous Link with Helicopter
The Handheld Controller is more than just a transmitter. It also receives real time data while the helicopter is flying. This allows the handheld controller to display battery voltage (and low battery warning), GPS position, the number of satellites locked on to, as well as the helicopters speed and orientation.
Critical Information
The hand held controller also provides you critical information updates. It will warn you when your battery reaches low voltage allowing landing and preventing damage to your helicopter. You will also receive warnings for poor link quality, and if your GPS signal is lost.
Bright OLED Display
The Handheld Controller features a bright OLED touch screen display, that can be seen in direct sunlight. Using this screen you can access all the settings with the hand held controllers easy to navigate touch-based menus.
2.4 GHz Data Link
The data link between the helicopter and the hand held controller is transmitted and received on 2.4GHz. The 2.4Ghz frequency is used world wide and this means that the Draganflyer X8 can be used everywhere. When starting up the Draganflyer X8 the hand held controller automatically scans for and locks on to an available channel eliminating the need for frequency control. Even if you are operating another Draganflyer aircraft (or other device on 2.4 GHz) in the area the signals will not interfere with each other.
Dragan Eye™ Pro Diversity Wireless Video Receiver
An embedded Dragan Eye™ Pro 5.8GHz dual diversity wireless video receiver incorporating two 5.8GHz video receivers is built into the controller. The diversity unit intelligently switches between the two receivers in order to obtain the best signal. Switching decisions are not only based on RSSI (Receiver Signal Strength Indication), but also on VSQA (Video Signal Quality Analysis) which monitors video quality on a frame-by-frame basis. Dual antennas can be positioned to pick up the video signal from multiple angles. Dual outputs are located on the bottom of the handheld controller for connecting video goggles and a recording device.
Use Two Controllers with One Helicopter
Sometimes you may want to have a photographer or videographer operate the cameras while some one else is piloting the helicopter. The Draganflyer hand held controllers can be wirelessly connected to each other to allow shared control over the helicopter. You can select which functions the second controller can use. This allows a photographer or videographer to focus on taking great shots with out fear of accidentally controlling the helicopters flight.
Using this system of assigning functions to the second user provides a great and quick way to train another pilot for the Draganflyer X8. As the trainee becomes comfortable with one control the instructor can give the student more control over the helicopter. The instructor can immediately take back full control by just releasing the trainer switch. This prevents the trainee from accidentally crashing the helicopter.
Designed with Comfort in Mind
The controller for the Draganflyer X8 is encased in a non-slip rubber grip which enhances its tough and rugged designed. Even though the hand held controller is tough and rugged it has been designed to be very comfortable to hold. The controller has been built to be just the right size and weight to make it easy to hold while operating the Draganflyer X8.
