Advanced Power System
Electric Powered Flight
At the core of the Draganflyer X8 is the advanced electric power system. Power from a specially designed lithium polymer battery provides the thrust that allows the Draganflyer X8 while simultaneously powering the onboard electronics. The battery supplies the power to the eight brushless electric motors which provide enough thrust for the helicopter to carry up to approximately 800 grams (1.7 lbs) in payload.
Fast Charging Lithium Polymer Battery
The Draganflyer X8 uses a custom designed 5400 mAh lithium polymer battery which provides power for both flying and camera systems. A lithium polymer battery is used because its unique chemistry allows it to be significantly lighter and higher capacity than an equivalently shaped conventional rechargeable battery. The Draganflyer X8 battery has integrated power and balance connectors that make charging simple with the included charging station. Recharging the battery with the Draganflyer X8s charging system takes approximately 30 minutes.
Efficient & Lightweight Carbon Fibre Rotors
The mechanical energy derived from the brushless electric motors is converted to thrust to keep the Draganflyer X8 airborne by the carbon fiber rotors. These rotors are molded into a shape engineered for optimal thrust at maximum efficiency. The added benefit of these high efficient rotors is that it also results in less noise while maintaining longer flight times. We choose carbon fiber for our rotors because it makes them both durable and lightweight.
High Performing Brushless Motors
The eight brushless electric motors have been custom designed specifically for the Draganflyer X8. Producing twice as much power as conventional brushed electric motors, these brushless electric motors last longer as they have no brushes to wear out. Brushless electric motors are maintenance free, extremely quiet and proved longer flight times. These Draganflyer X8 brushless electric motors have been designed to provide the correct amount of speed and torque to drive the rotor blades without the use of gears.
