Eight Rotor Configuration
Increased Payload Capability
The Draganflyer X8 UAV helicopter has a payload capacity of approximately 800 grams (1.7 lbs), the largest of all the Draganflyer helicopters . To achieve this the Draganflyer X8 uses an innovative tilted eight-rotor design. The eight rotors are arranged as four counter-rotating offset pairs mounted at the ends of four carbon fiber arms. The four sets of matched counter rotating rotor blades provide differential thrust from four equally spaced points, which allows the Draganflyer X8 UAV helicopter to maneuver with precision and speed. The larger Draganflyer X8 also provides improved performance in the wind due to its larger size and weight. Using the offset layout of the rotors increases the thrust without increasing the size of the footprint, and naturally eliminates the loss of efficiency due to torque compensation.
Increased Stability in the Wind
The Draganflyer X8 UAV weighs approximately 1700 grams (60 oz) and has the increased thrust of 8 counter-rotating rotors which allows it to be much more stable in windy conditions. The larger size and weight of the Draganflyer X8 make it a very stable helicopter to fly.
Virtually Maintenance Free
Brushless motors and carbon fiber rotor blades are the only moving parts on the Draganflyer X8 helicopter. Because of the direct drive configuration, there are no gears to wear out. Electric power also means that there are no engines to tune or service.
Efficient Design
All four of the Draganflyer X8 carbon fibre arms fold back to allow the helicopter to become compact for easy transport. The low weight and high strength rotors are designed for low noise and maximum efficiency. The four arm carbon fiber frame provides maximum strength while at the same time maintains minimum weight. The Draganflyer X8s' custom designed brushless electric motors, custom designed carbon fiber rotors and custom designed frame allows the helicopter to provide the highest level of performance.
Quiet & Efficient
The Draganflyer X8 UAV helicopter features a unique design that minimizes thrust lost to sound output. The rotor blades have been designed for maximum efficiency while naturally producing less turbulence when spinning. The motors are direct drive which reduces moving parts and eliminates and gear box noise. While hovering, the Draganflyer X8 produces less than approximately 78dB of sound at one meter (3 feet).
